DLF x VRA GLAM Cross-Pollinator

The Digital Library Federation is proud to announce that the 2019 Forum fellowship application is now open. This year, we are offering a number of fellowship opportunities to enable a diverse group of practitioners to attend the 2019 DLF Forum, to be held in Tampa, Florida, this October.

For a fifth year,we are offering four GLAM Cross-Pollinator Registration Awards, open to membersof our partner organizations: AIC (the American Institute for Conservation), ARLIS/NA (Art Libraries Society of North America), MCN (the Museum Computer Network), and VRA (the Visual Resources Association).

Please note that GLAM Cross-Pollinator Registration Awards provide registration only. Other costs must be covered by the attendee/their employer.

Other Forum Fellowship opportunities include:

  • ARL+DLF Fellowships available to anyone who identifies as members of a group (or groups) underrepresented among digital library and cultural heritage practitioners;
  • DLF Students & New Professionals Fellowships are available to anyone affiliated with a DLF member institution who is a current student or a new professional;
  • DLF Focus Fellowships support established professionals working towards a particular project, subject, or goal; and
  • International Fellowships, which encourage attendance from members of the digital library community who are based in countries other than the United States.

We welcome applications from everyone; DLF member affiliation is only required for our DLF Student & New Professional Fellowships.

In return, Fellows will be asked to share a brief reflection on their experiences after the conference.

Learn more and find a link to the (lightweight) application form on our site.

Take a look at our website for all eligibility information and directions on how to apply. The deadline to apply is 11:59pm ET on Monday, June 10.

Zoom On In are free 20-minute virtual copyright sessions. They’re part of Copyrightlaws.com’s 2019 initiatives to make people more aware of copyright law. Think of these sessions as copyright education or copyright literacy in a nutshell.

*Happening Today* The Smithsonian American Art Museum invites you to join Dr. Susan Rather, a professor and an associate chair for the department of art and art history at the University of Texas at Austin and winner of the 2018 Charles C. Eldredge Prize, for a talk entitled “Constructing the American School” on Thursday, February 7, at 4 p.m. EST at the museum. Watch a live webcast here!

National Trust for Historic Preservation-Preservation Leadership Forum presents Including Women in the Sequel: Re-Interpretation and Telling the Full History at Historic Sites. Panelists from Belle Grove, the Oneida Community Mansion House, and the Pauli Murray House discuss their work telling women’s stories—including identifying source materials, developing interpretive plans, and building narratives that tell a broader American story. Watch the recorded webinar here (free)!

New England Museum Association presents Finding the Broadest Benefit in Preservation. As many of us face ongoing limitations in funding and staffing, it is increasingly important that each preservation action taken improves long-term outcomes for the largest number of items. Preservation (preventive conservation) is best approached when we take a moment to step back from the trees and start looking at the forest. This session will provide a brief refresher on the difference between preservation and conservation, will take you through the various aspects of a preservation program while identifying areas where broad actions have significant benefits and will explore the impact and feasibility matrix as a method for building a long-range preservation plan that benefits all of your collections. Watch the recording here (free)!
